While listening to a "Voip-Users" conference, someone mentioned that the adoption of IPv6 would eliminate any need for NAT. After thinking about this, I realized how many problems this would eliminate. SIP (point to point protocol) would just work. ...great topic for discussion.
Please report your experiences with hosting Asterisk at a central location for other people. One example of this would be hosting multiple asterisk servers on one physical box.
Also we are interested in sharing any experiences with running Asterisk on virtual servers which are located on 1 physical server. Some advantages of running a Asterisk "farm" like this would be much faster throughput between multiple servers or clusters versus the throughput over ethernet. Another advantage would be much faster recovery by failover or restoring a machine image versus compiling a new Asterisk installation on physical hardware box.
